We run the Gauntlet, lets go to France, so we can french kiss some french girls!

They aren’t from Japan and they don’t make robot music, but this duo from Vancouver, Canada sure makes you feel like you’ll be young forever. With quotes like…
… how could you not feel like a Younger Us. These guys take a distinct garage rock sound and make it anthemic to the point that you can’t help but sing along. Tracks like Young Hearts Spark Fire and Wet Hair from the Japandroids eponymous first record will leave you in such a reckless state, you’ll hope that your mother isn’t watching.
And finally, with their new album Celebration Rock due out on June 5th, we have another 8 tightly constructed songs that ooze reckless summer celebration and getting drunk in the sun. You know? Being young…
The new album is simply a continuation, highlighted by tracks like The House That Heaven Built, sing-alongs occur upon first listen. Just try not to head bang and shake around for the track’s entirety.
I would just like to personally thank Japandroids for helping me stay young these last few years. It’s been a blast. Can’t wait to see you guys June 16th in Seattle. Now go listen!

There has been a research study done on the memorability of movie quotes. You can take the test here to experience just how they conducted their research. Below is the abstract from the study. I included a sweet movie quote from one of my favorite Zac Efron movies as an example. P.S.- That’s not english
“Understanding the ways in which information achieves widespread public awareness is a research question of significant interest. We consider whether, and how, the way in which the information is phrased —- the choice of words and sentence structure —- can affect this process. To this end, we develop an analysis framework and build a corpus of movie quotes, annotated with memorability information, in which we are able to control for both the speaker and the setting of the quotes. We find significant differences between memorable and non-memorable quotes in several key dimensions. One is lexical distinctiveness: in aggregate, memorable quotes use less common word choices, but at the same time are built upon a scaffolding of common syntactic patterns; another is that memorable quotes tend to be more general in ways that make them easy to apply in new contexts. We also show how the concept of “memorable language” can be extended across domains.
UPDATE: The Economist has written an article explaining some of the findings.

Did not know about these… Basically, there are these salt dome caverns being built that are able to store billions of cubic feet of natural gas. The interesting part of all this is that there is a boom in production of natural gas due to new methods of extracting the gas from shale rock formations. Combine this with the decreased demand this year from a very warm winter and you have an industry that is extremely volatile at the moment. There is a short NPR story on this that is very informative. In the short run, this is a very large problem for the industry, but in the long run, the US is sitting pretty with natural gas resources.
